It is our advice that wherever possible a cold air induction system should be fitted, as this will result in the best increase in induction air and deliver the largest increase in BHP and performance. However, where induction kits are not available, a good quality performance panel filter, such as a K N filter, can also deliver a good increase in air flow.

The K N filter delivers virtually unrestricted flow, letting your engine run stronger, cleaner and with greater fuel efficiency. With no costly changes and services, your K&N filter will save you money as the filter lasts for 1,000,000 miles. Plus, you’ll be helping the environment by reducing the number of disposable air filters that end up in landfills.

Worldwide shipping or UK fitting is available on our range or performance air filters and air induction kits.

Air Filter Induction Kits Frequentialy Asked Questions

Is an air filter the same as an induction kit?

No. An air filter and an induction kit are two different things, even though the two get mixed up. A performance air filter is a single component. It is a less restrictive replacement for the paper filter element that sits inside your car’s standard air box. Swap it in and the rest of the factory intake stays exactly where it is. More air gets through, but nothing else changes. This type is also called a panel filter.

An induction kit is a full intake system. It replaces the standard air box and the pipework around it, and comes with a high-flow filter, smoother intake piping and the fittings you need to install it. A cold air intake is an induction kit designed to draw air from a cooler spot away from engine heat. Cooler air is denser, so the engine gets more oxygen on each intake stroke.

An air filter can be part of an induction kit, but an induction kit is much more than a filter. A panel filter is the smaller, simpler upgrade. A full induction kit changes the whole way the engine breathes, which is why its effect on power and sound is more noticeable. You can compare both across the Paramount Performance induction kit and air filter range.

Are induction kits legal in the UK?

Induction kits are legal to fit and use on UK roads. According to the RAC, air filters and intake upgrades are permitted as long as the vehicle still passes its MOT emissions test. The rules that govern modifications sit within the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, made under the Road Traffic Act 1988.

A couple of points are worth knowing before you buy. The strict noise limits apply to exhaust systems, not intakes, so an induction kit does not carry the same risk of an excessive-noise fine that a loud exhaust can. An open cone filter will make the intake noticeably louder under acceleration, which is part of the appeal for a lot of drivers, and that is a change to induction sound rather than exhaust output.

You must tell your insurer about any modification, an induction kit included. Failing to declare it can invalidate your policy and leave you without cover if you need to claim. This holds for changes that look minor as much as major ones.
