About Our ECU Remaps | Chip Tuning Service
What is Remapping?
The process of car remapping, also known as ECU tuning, is the process of tweaking & modifying the settings on a car in accordance with the owner’s preferences. With a computer to hand the owner is able to customise how exactly the engine operates, dictating exactly what they get from the car. This, of course, has to be within legal limitations.
Performance Car Tuning and Performance suspension components can be sent via our worldwide shipping service – Call or E-mail us for a shipping quote.
How Does Remapping Work?
It can be possible for a car to be remapped fairly easily. The main thing you’ll need to do is make changes to the default settings and software provided by the manufacturer. The process consists of overwriting the old software on the Engine Control Unit (ECU) (Engine Control Unit) and replacing it with the new custom software. The updated software is then plugged into the car’s serial port. Fortunately, these days, this process has become quite a bit easier!
What Exactly Does Remapping Do?
Now that we have a better understanding of what remapping is, & how it’s performed. Let’s dive a little deeper and learn more about how ECU remapping can actually benefit & enhance your motor:
Increase in power – remapping the ECU programs can include modifying the motor’s power characteristics. The most common change is increasing the amount of power. As a result, your car will be able to accelerate much more quickly, allowing you to reach your top speed much faster. As a result of the increased power, you will likely experience an increase in fuel consumption.
Increase of responsiveness – Although speed and power are common motives for remapping an engine’s ECU. Interestingly, there are many drivers who take advantage of the ability to alter the settings in order to improve fuel efficiency. To do this, drivers can reduce the amount of gear changes that they need to make to overtake other vehicles or perform other driving situations that require high torque and horsepower levels.

Is it worth remapping my car?
How safe is ECU tuning? Is it worth it? Is remapping a car a good thing? These are some of the most common questions when it comes to remapping. In short, remapping is great if you want the most out of your car. That means more horsepower, better performance, and more efficiency. Let’s dig into some of those questions:
Can remapping damage your engine? – No. Not if you do it right. Although, the changes you make may put further strain on the engine. Your engine will be perfectly safe if the remapping is carried out by a trained professional.
Can all cars be remapped? – Not necessarily. In many cases, cars built before 2000 simply cannot be tuned because they are too old.
Does Remapping affect your insurance? In the case of a modified (remapped) car, we strongly recommend informing your insurance provider. The majority consider remapping a car modification. If you decide to remap your motor, you will typically see an increase in your insurance premium.
