New Defender Mods: More Power, More Sound, More Character

Love your Defender but want a bit more from it? Whether you are after sharper throttle response, a deeper V8 soundtrack or a serious performance upgrade, Paramount Performance can help you get more enjoyment from every drive.

The New Land Rover Defender is fantastic straight from the factory, but if you want to make yours faster, louder, sharper or uniquely yours, Paramount Performance can help. Founded in the 1980s, our team brings decades of experience in performance tuning, upgrades and bespoke conversions. We offer worldwide mail order on all our defender mods and UK fitting at our Warwickshire workshop, so you can start your upgrade journey wherever you are.

Our Defender mods generally focus on four core areas: engine tuning, exhaust and airflow, chassis and handling and interior or styling work.

  • New Defender (L663): An ECU remap delivers the biggest performance boost, with supercharger pulley and exhaust upgrades available for 5.0 V8 models.
  • Classic Defender: Common routes include turbo or ECU upgrades, galvanised chassis fits, soundproofing and modern lighting.

More punch from your Defender

From the P300 and P400 petrol models to D200, D250 and D300 diesels, there are tuning options to suit different engines and driving styles. Depending on the model, these include ECU remapping, plug-in tuning boxes and gearbox tuning. Our focus is on useful power, stronger torque and smoother everyday driveability.

Some models can also use our home tuning device, allowing a compatible calibration to be uploaded through the OBD port and returned to standard when needed.

Whether you drive the 110 Diesel or the 5.0 V8, there are upgrade options for your vehicle. Our range includes high-flow induction systems, sports exhausts, ECU remapping and gearbox tuning, all built to integrate directly with Land Rover engineering.

For 5.0 V8 owners, ECU tuning and supercharger pulley upgrades safely push power past 660bhp, delivering immediate throttle response and custom shift points to match your driving style.

  • Home Tuning Device: Our Defender home tuning device uploads maps directly through the OBD port with no wiring or cutting. Adds roughly 50bhp and 110Nm, and can be reverted to standard at any time.
  • P300 (2.0 Four-Cylinder Petrol): We offer both a full  Defender P300 ECU remap and a plug-in tuning box. The pre-programmed tuning box adds up to 100 horsepower.
  • P400 (3.0 Straight-Six Mild Hybrid): Engine-specific Defender P400 remaps and plug-in tuning boxes deliver up to 100 extra horsepower and up to 30 per cent more torque.
  • D200, D250 and D300 Diesels: If you own a Defender with a diesel engine, a tuning box is a popular option.
  • 5.0 Supercharged V8: Our Defender 5.0 ECU remap forms the base, with a smaller supercharger pulley raising blower speed. The full Beast package takes the 5.0 to 666bhp and 900Nm, adding around 150bhp and 195Nm over standard.

Meet the Defender Beast

New defenders mods

For owners of the 5.0-litre supercharged V8, the Defender Beast package takes things much further. Upper and lower supercharger pulleys, 200-cell sports catalytic converters and bespoke ECU tuning form the core of the conversion, with an upgraded intake recommended to complete the setup. The package targets up to 666 bhp and 900 Nm of torque.

The result is strong acceleration and the kind of effortless pulling power that makes the V8 Defender so addictive.

Optional Land Rover carbon fibre bonnets are also available for styling and weight reduction.

“The New Defender offers serious tuning potential, particularly the 5.0 V8,”
– says Paul Busby, CEO of Paramount Performance.
“We regularly see 600–660bhp with hardware upgrades and software calibration. It is about enhancing how the car drives, not just chasing numbers.”

Give it the soundtrack it deserves

A performance exhaust is one of the most popular Defender mods and can transform the way your Defender sounds. Choose a resonated system for a more restrained soundtrack that is still louder than standard, or a non-resonated option for a more pronounced note. Exhaust availability and fitment varies by engine, body style and emissions specification.

Our systems fit 90, 110 and 130 layouts across the P300, P400e, P400, 5.0 V8 and OCTA P635 4.4 V8 engines, with options for both OPF and non-OPF models.

  • Resonated Systems: Reduce interior noise for vehicles doing higher motorway miles.
  • Non-Resonated Systems: Louder setup suited to weekend or occasional use.
  • Induction Kits and Sports Cats: Defender air induction kits feed cooler air to the engine, while 200 cell sports catalytic converters reduce back pressure while keeping emissions systems intact.
  • De-Cat Pipes: Defender de-cat pipes are sold strictly for off-road and track use

Suspension, Handling and Chassis Work

Tuning a Defender puts extra load through the chassis, so handling upgrades make a massive difference on a heavy vehicle with a high centre of gravity.

  • Powerflex Handling Pack: Polyurethane bushes do not flex like rubber, giving you direct steering response, better road feel
  • Galvanised Replacement Chassis: If a Classic Defender has chassis corrosion, a galvanised chassis is a big upgrade. It makes sense to plan your suspension, brakes and bushes at the same time.

UK Legalities and Compliance

Most Defender mods are legal, but you must notify your insurer about any changes, including software remaps.

  • V5C Updates: Mandatory if you change the engine, cylinder capacity, fuel type or colour.
  • Chassis Replacement: DVLA notification requires a Vehicle Parts Statement (V627/1), and structural modifications require a Modified Vehicle Statement (V627/3).
  • MOT Compliance: Missing catalytic converters or DPFs result in an immediate MOT failure. De-cat pipes are sold strictly for off-road use.
