Coilovers replace your standard springs and dampers with adjustable units at each wheel, letting you fine-tune height and damping to suit how you drive. Our coilover range is led by BC Racing, with vehicle-specific kits listed for over 1,500 applications across 66 manufacturers, from Audi and BMW to Porsche and Aston Martin. We fit them at our workshop in Bidford-on-Avon, Warwickshire, and finish every install with a full wheel alignment and geometry setup.
What Is a Coilover Kit?
A coilover kit includes four complete suspension units, one for each wheel, replacing your original springs and dampers. The coil spring sits directly around the damper body as a single assembly rather than as two separate components.
The key difference over standard parts is the threaded body. Adjustable collars let you raise or lower the vehicle, while damping controls let you adjust suspension firmness so the car isn’t restricted to factory settings.
Some kits include new top mounts while others reuse the original factory units. Check the options on the product page before ordering to confirm what comes in the box.
What Coilover Suspension Does for Your Car
Ride Height
Lowering the car brings the centre of gravity down and closes the arch gap. Because the adjustment is on a thread rather than fixed into a spring, you can settle on a height that works for your roads rather than accepting whatever a set of lowering springs happens to give you.
Damping
Damping controls how quickly your suspension reacts and settles.
- Firm settings: Deliver tighter body control for smooth roads and track days.
- Softer settings: Offer more compliance for longer motorway journeys.
BC Racing kits arrive with spring preload preset and damping dialled to a sensible starting point, giving you a usable baseline once fitted.
Body Control
BC Racing’s recommended specifications generally use springs and damper settings firmer than the original suspension. That reduces body movement and supports the shorter suspension travel a lowered setup needs. The car should feel more controlled and more responsive under braking, acceleration and cornering.
How your car feels and handles is not set as it’s an adjustable suspension. Comfort and performance depend on the kit series, vehicle condition, wheel and tyre combination, height settings and damping adjustments.
Coilovers Compared With Lowering Springs
Lowering Springs
Lowering springs drop the car by a fixed amount and work alongside your original dampers. They are a budget-friendly option for drivers who want a lower stance without adjustability. View our full suspension range for spring-only kits.
Coilover Kits
Coilovers replace both springs and dampers, providing full height and damping adjustment. They cost more up front, but give you the flexibility to fine-tune how the car behaves, which is ideal if you are running wider wheels and tyres or spending time on track.
How to Choose Coilovers for My Car
Start With Fitment
Coilovers are specific to each vehicle. Chassis code, drive layout and strut diameter all dictate which kit fits your car. An Audi A3 8V, for example, is listed by strut size because the wrong option simply won’t fit. Filter the grid above by manufacturer, then check the fitment dropdown on the product page before ordering.
Match the Series to How You Drive
The BR series is the balanced option, aimed at road, fast road and occasional track use, and it is the series listed against these kits. Spring rates vary by application rather than being one figure across the range.
The BR series is the core BC Racing range we list and recommend. It’s built for road, fast road and occasional track use, and spring rates vary by application rather than being one figure across the range.
Other BC Racing specifications and series can be supplied to special order where they’re available for your vehicle. Contact us with your car’s details and we’ll check what can be built for it.
Budget for Fitting and Alignment
Remember to factor in fitting and setup costs. Coilovers need professional installation and a full four-wheel alignment, along with a follow-up check once the suspension settles.
Factor fitting and setup into your budget. We allow around 1 hour per corner, so roughly 4 hours of labour to fit a full kit. A full wheel alignment and geometry setup is £95 on top of that. Some vehicles take longer, so we’ll confirm the price for your car before any work starts.
Coilovers Price
Pricing for each kit is listed in the grid above and varies according to your vehicle. Our Aston Martin and Porsche packages lean toward the higher end of the spectrum compared to our Audi and Alfa Romeo fits.
Fitting, Alignment and Your MOT
Lowering your car won’t automatically cause an MOT fail, but you must meet GOV.UK DVSA standards.
Coil springs must seat correctly when the suspension resets, and dampers will fail if they provide little to no shock absorption at any point in their travel. Keep the ride height sensible, maintain enough suspension travel and verify tyre clearance.
Finally, remember to notify your insurer. Coilovers are a declared modification and failing to report them can void your policy.
Delivery, Lead Times and Returns
Many BC Racing kits are built or configured for your vehicle before despatch, so lead times vary by application. Delivery times, cancellation terms and return conditions for each kit are set out on the product page and in the Paramount Performance shipping policy.
Why Choose Paramount Performance for Coilovers
Paramount Performance has been building and installing performance parts since 1986. Originally Jaguar and Land Rover specialists, we now bring that expertise to all makes and models. Our knowledge and expertise is important for suspension work as it requires that expertise to find the perfect balance of ride height and damping for everyday driving.
BC Racing leads our coilover range, with over 1,500 kits listed across 66 manufacturers, and we supply suspension from other manufacturers including KW Suspension and H&R. Every kit can be fitted in our own workshop. We also handle Powerflex suspension bushes, exhausts and engine tuning under one roof, so your suspension works as part of a complete build rather than an isolated job.

Coilovers FAQs
What is a coilover kit?
A coilover kit is a set of four adjustable suspension units that replace the standard spring and damper at each corner of the car. The coil spring sits over the damper as one assembly, and threaded collars allow the ride height to be changed. Most kits also allow the damping to be adjusted.
What does a coilover kit do?
A coilover kit lets you set the car’s ride height and control how the suspension responds. Lowering reduces the centre of gravity and closes the arch gap, while firmer springs and damping reduce body movement under braking, acceleration and cornering. The setup can be revisited later as your wheels, tyres or driving change.
How much do coilovers usually cost?
Coilover prices vary by vehicle. Kits for smaller hatchbacks sit at the lower end of the range and kits for larger prestige and performance cars sit higher. The price on each product page covers the kit only. Fitting takes around 4 hours of labour, and a full wheel alignment and geometry setup is £95. Current kit prices for every application are in the grid above.
Are coilovers better than shocks?
Coilovers and shocks do a different job. A replacement shock absorber restores the car to how it left the factory. Coilovers replace the spring and damper together and add adjustment on top, so you can change ride height and damping to suit the car and the roads. If you want the original ride back, replacement dampers are the sensible choice. If you want to change how the car sits and handles, coilovers give you the control.
Do coilovers come with a warranty?
Yes. BC Racing kits are supplied with a manufacturer’s warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, subject to the manufacturer’s terms, correct installation and normal road use. This sits alongside your statutory consumer rights.
Do coilover kits include everything for all four wheels?
Yes, suspension units are included for all four corners. Some applications supply new top mounts and others require the original mounts to be reused, so check the selected variation on the product page.
Can I fit coilovers myself?
Suspension work needs the correct equipment and tightening procedures and a four wheel alignment afterwards. If you are equipped for it and confident, it can be done at home. If not, have it done professionally. Fitting is available at our workshop in Bidford-on-Avon, Warwickshire.
Do I need to tell my insurer about coilovers?
Yes. Coilovers are a modification and most UK insurers require modifications to be declared. Check with your provider before the work is booked in.
Can you supply other BC Racing coilover series?
Yes. The BR series is our core range, and other BC Racing specifications and series can be supplied to special order where they’re available for your vehicle. Contact us with your make, model and year and we’ll confirm the options.
