E85, or some times known as FlexFuel has become popular with performance car enthusiasts and tuners. As well as its environmental benefits, E85 fuel allows high performance engines to operate at much higher cylinder pressures. Hence producing more power. This is due to ethanol’s combustion cooling effects and increased anti-knock properties

Can I run E85 without a tune?

No. If you use E85 in your Jaguar without the correct E85-specific engine tune and remap. You can quickly damage your engine. This is because more fuel is needed when running on E85 fuel. If you did try to run on E85 without the correct tune and software, your engine would not have enough fuel and would run lean. And Jaguar engines hate to run lean. It will run too lean, too hot and will cause serious damage and engine failure.

One of the best things about E85 fuel is its higher octane rating. However, it also has great ability to reduce engine detonation. As such, with tuning the engine timing can be made to be more advances and hence more powerful than when tuning with regular gasoline.

The combination of E85’s high octane rating and the additional cooling effect means that E85 performs as if you were running your car on 110 octane gasoline, (or race gas)
